Our Practices
Sustainable Techniques
Kiana Creek Ranch utilizes sustainable techniques to keep the land thriving and productive. We harvest grass hay for Kiana Creek Ranch, teaching sustainability to future generations. Additional hay is also grown in the San Luis Valley at Kiana Creek Farms. We pasture graze our 100% grass fed and finished steers using rotational grazing. We use a visible white electric fence which is set at a height, making it easy for all species of wildlife to move about the property. Elk and deer can easily jump over it, while coyotes and bobcats can walk right under the ground wire. We also use goats as organic weed management on the ranch. Goats are not only the BEST at organic weed management, they also assist with fire mitigation on the property and help build better soil for carbon sequestration! Ecosystems flourish with the diversity of plant and animal species. To prevent a monoculture of grasses, our pastures are reseeded with a No Till Seed Drill using Colorado native grass species.
