About Us

Our Story

Andrea and Mike Slattery are the owners and founders of Kiana Creek Ranch, established in 2015. The property of Kiana Creek Ranch has been in existence since 1864, with the original homestead of the James' Family still preserved on the Ranch today. The property has a long history in Douglas County, as it used to be a Pony Express stop between Denver and Colorado Springs. Today, the Slattery's have maintained the original buildings (post office, homestead and original dairy barn) because they believe the most important part of Kiana Creek Ranch is the history behind it and for people to experience it throughout the future. During their first years as owners, Andrea and Mike used their past education from the Teton Science School and California Polytechnic University to help with pasture inventory and rotational grazing. They began to learn how to manage their land in the most environmentally friendly way. Today, there are over 1400 acres that belong to Kiana Creek Ranch.

In 2018, Kiana Creek Ranch received the Douglas County Conservationist of the Year Award. Cattle and horses are rotated through pastures to maintain the integrity of the land and preserve the quality for future generations. It is very important to them that as they keep growing, the same regenerative practices are still in place.

Kiana Creek Ranch also has large garden in which they grow a variety of fruits, vegetables and herbs on. They use practices such as composting to help feed the land, while utilizing any waste from the livestock animals. No-till and goat weed management are two other regenerative practices the ranch utilizes in order to help with regrowth and fire mitigation. They are supporters of the 4-H youth development organization, and Andrea and Mike are 4-H leaders. Mike is a local volunteer firefighter. They now own Kiana Creek Ranch, Kiana Creek Farms and Kiana Creek Equestrian Center with their 4 children.
